The CEO of Comcast Spectacor, Dave Scott, recently sent a letter to staff members stating that "viewership is poor and the network has not delivered sustainable financial outcomes."

According to Deadline, Comcast is canceling G4 after failing to restart the gaming channel last year. It premiered on linear cable in 2002 and lasted until 2012, when its final studio shows were cancelled. Since then, the Esquire Network has taken over the slot.

Deadline acquired an internal memo from Comcast Spectacor CEO Dave Scott announcing the termination. Scott cited poor viewing and the failure to "deliver sustainable financial returns" as reasons for the decision.

Several G4 employees tweeted that they found out about the shutdown via the press and other tweets rather than from Scott himself.

This is not the outcome we had hoped for, and as a result, we have made the painful choice to shut down G4 immediately," Scott adds.

Last year, G4 returned on multiple channels, including those offered by Comcast / Xfinity, Verizon Fios, Cox, and Philo. It premiered with throwback programming, such as Attack of the Show, Xplay, and Ninja Warrior, in an attempt to re-entice old-school viewers. Before switching back to traditional television, the corporation had a multi-year agreement with the streaming platform Twitch, where it hosted infrequent streams.

Scott also mentions that the company's HR department will contact the G4 team's employees to "explore alternative options that may be available."
